Ever since ‘Love Won’t Let Me Down’ came out last summer, I have eagerly awaited Hillsong Y&F’s third album release. The lead song is a pure earworm dance track built on a theme of God’s persistence. Fusing glitch-pop sounds and lyrics that are so at home in worship they would automatically take their shoes off and grab a cuppa, it quickly became my own favourite Y&F track.
In their song story video, the group share that ‘Love Won’t Let Me Down’ exists to show that “[God] stays with us not matter [where] we go’ and is full or ‘triumph’. Listening to them, it’s pretty clear they were too excited to hold back on this one. Releasing it almost a year before the new album (which didn’t even have a name back then) was a clear sign of the vitalness of the message.
And now, months after ‘Love Won’t Let Me Down’ was released, we finally get an album name and release date. Titled ‘III’ (appropriate for a third album), and due for release on the 29th June, this follow-up to Youth Revival features 17 new tracks from the group.
Included in these are the songs P E A C E and Let Go, both songs that offer a mellow sound and lean into what life with God looks like. All of the songs so-far released from III show the group pushing deeper into what faith brings to life. Theirs is a sound looking to be known for more than the synth-anthems of songs like ‘Alive’ and ‘This is Living’ (not that I don’t crank them up whenever the sun’s out).
Rather, III is about living in God’s freedom, love, and hope. It reaches to people in need of a reason for life, spurned by rejection looking for a love that won't leave them, won't let them down.
