Aaron Lewendon - Eden Bibles & Bible Study Specialist
In an our increasingly Bible-ignorant world where practically every Christian is now a missionary in their own land, the mission-born Fire Bible is the study Bible whose time is now.
Why Haven’t I Heard of The Fire Bible?
The Fire Bible is an overlooked and underused study and evangelism resource. That might be due to its birth and development in the Pentecostal mission tradition rather that the Bible translation department of a major publishing house.
But denominational labels aside, all Christians share in a Pentecostal tradition. We are all reborn in the fire of Pentecost; that baptising flame that launched the first followers of Christ on his worldwide mission to make disciples.
Spark to Flame: Origins of The Fire Bible
The Fire Bible begins with a spark of inspiration from Bible scholar, Pentecostal minister and Assemblies of God missionary, Donald Stamps (1938-1991).
Realising the need for a study Bible to support Christian evangelists working in non-English speaking cultures, Don Stamps’ response was The Full Life Study Bible which became The Life in the Spirit Bible and finally the current Fire Bible.
Stamps’ original concept aimed to overcome barriers of language outside of our own culture. Today, Christians have to face obstacles ranging from a lack of familiarity with the Bible to open hostility, even within in our own society.
Aware of the uncompromising times ahead, the Fire Bible’s compilers continue Stamps’ emphasis on promoting and supporting discipleship - not only in Christians’ own lives, but in their mission to others in their everyday world of work, home, recreation and study.
Setting A Blaze to Warm and Enlighten
With more than 80 themed articles, introductions to each book of the Bible, text-embedded maps and charts, a concordance and comprehensive study notes, current editions – with NIV and KJV, The Fire Bible honours the biblical symbol for God’s presence, power and Spirit at in the world.
But with in-depth, comprehensive, and thoroughgoing resources standard in most modern study Bibles, what makes the Fire Bible stand out is the accessibility it offers and the consistent discipleship focus it provides.
Re-igniting the Pentecostal Flame
Throughout the text, 12 essential themes are labelled with easily identifiable ‘theme finder’ icons so you know what every verse and chapter is saying. At the back, the same 12 icons head up the list of key Bible passages that deal with that theme.
Anyone looking to enrich their own, or encourage another’s, spirit filled life is likely the get the most from the Fire Bible’s study tools and life application notes.
In the world that would quench the fire of the spirit, the Fire Bible might be just the kindling you need to re-ignite your passion for the Bible and fuel your flame of mission, just as Donald Stamp envisioned when he planned his full life Bible for the spirit filled life.
