Church Newspaper ‘The Baptist Times’ will publish its last print edition this week, after 156 years of circulation.
The paper is set to become a digital publication after this week’s final, commemorative edition.
A new downloadable ‘The Baptist Times Weekly Round-Up’ will go online on January 25th as a two page A5 format of news and features.
It is designed to be used and shared by churches, either as an electronic or print newsletter. Churches are being invited to print them out so that congregations can pick them up at Sunday services.
Subscribers will be alerted to new publications by an email. And in March a new Baptist Times website will go online, which will not only house the round-up, but also provide a daily source of news and features.
Paul Hobson, currently the News Editor at The Baptist Times, will become editor of the new online website.
He is excited about the opportunities that the new digital version will bring. “The Baptist Times has served the denomination well over the last 150 years. Although the newspaper is now at an end, it is great that The Baptist Times will live on in a format that is appealing and relevant to today’s audience.”
In recent years many newspapers have had to carefully consider the amount of money they have to spend on print editions, and look for ways to monetise their online content.
The Times and Sunday Times both charge subscribers for access to articles, whereas other newspapers allow free access to some content, while charging for premium content.
