Introducing Seasons of Life: A Book for Every Season of Your Faith

Introduction to Seasons of Life, our curated list of some of the books we believe matter most, organised not by author or genre, but where you actually are on the journey of following Jesus.

If you've ever stood in front of a shelf packed with Christian books — or scrolled endlessly through an online store — completely overwhelmed by the choice, you're not alone. We've watched it happen more times than we can count: someone comes to us wanting to grow in their faith, or help a struggling friend, or find comfort in a hard season, and they can't decide which book to buy simply because there was too much choice and not enough time to work out what was actually for them.

That's exactly why we've put together Seasons of Life — a curated list of some of the books we believe matter most, organised not by author or genre, but by where you actually are on the journey of following Jesus.

Why "seasons"?

Faith was never meant to be static. It ebbs and flows, deepens and stretches, gets tested and renewed. Scripture itself leans into this rhythm — a time to plant, a time to uproot, a time to weep, a time to dance (Ecclesiastes 3). Your walk with God at seventeen looks different to your walk at forty, and different again in the quiet, reflective years further down the road. The books that helped you ten years ago might not be the ones you need today — and that's not a failure, it's just growth.

So instead of another generic "top 100 Christian books" list, we asked a simple question: what does a person actually need to read right now, depending on the season of life they're in? The answer became eight categories, each one shaped by decades of customer interactions with real people looking for real help.

Who put this together?

This list has been a long-term aspiration of Eden.co.uk. It wasn't generated by an algorithm or scraped from a bestseller chart. It's been curated by people who have spent years — in some cases decades — running Christian bookshops, recommending titles face to face, watching which books people come back for, and which ones God quietly uses to change lives. We know the difference between a book that looks good on a shelf and a book that actually meets someone where they are. That's the expertise behind every recommendation here.

Hi, I'm Anna and I look after the Christian books here at Eden - and have been for the last 14 years! Prior to that I ran a Christian bookshop on the high street. I've spent many years hearing from customers, reading testimonies and getting to personally read life-changing, faith-building books. It's been a privilege to help curate Seasons of Life, cherry picking from the many many options available. We really hope this will be a helpful shortlist to refer to when a question pops up or you're discovering a challenge/ opportunity of a new season.

I'm Colin, and I’m still in my first year as part of the Eden team, but have over 25 years of experience in the Christian book industry. I am a Theology graduate and have managed bookshops in Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England. During that time I have experienced the joy and privilege of recommending Christian books and Bibles to thousands of customers and have often seen how God has used those to meet the specific needs of the reader. So curating this list with Anna has been a very natural process and I trust it will help you in whatever season you find yourself.

Eight Seasons

Here's a quick look at what you'll find:

Starting the Journey For those brand new to faith, or just starting to explore what Christianity is really about. Gentle, clear, honest books that don't assume any prior knowledge — perfect for new believers, or for the friend who's just started asking questions.

Walking Faithfully For the everyday rhythm of discipleship — prayer, Bible reading, character, and the ordinary discipline of following Jesus day by day. These are the books that help you keep going when the initial excitement has settled into a steady, faithful routine.

Friends & Family Faith rarely happens in isolation. This section covers marriage, parenting, friendship, and the beautifully complicated business of loving the people closest to us in a way that reflects Christ.

Map & Compass For those who want to go deeper into what they believe. Theology, doctrine, and apologetics — books that give you a firm foundation and the confidence to explain your faith to others.

Faith & the World How does following Jesus shape the way we work, vote, create, and engage with culture? This category is for anyone wrestling with what it means to live faithfully in a complicated world.

Looking Beyond Ourselves Mission, generosity, justice, and service. For those feeling the pull to lift their eyes from their own concerns and ask how they might serve God's wider purposes — locally or globally.

Detours & Roadblocks Doubt, suffering, grief, burnout, disappointment with God. Life doesn't move in a straight line, and neither does faith. These are honest, compassionate books for the seasons that hurt.

The Long View For those further along in life — or further along in faith — thinking about legacy, ageing well, finishing strong, and what it means to run the race to the very end.

How to use the list

You don't need to work through Seasons of Life from start to finish like a syllabus. Think of it more like a map you can dip into whenever you need it. Feeling stuck in doubt? Head to Detours & Roadblocks. Just become a parent and wondering how to raise your kids in faith? Friends & Family has you covered. Want to disciple someone new to church (or perhaps you are that ‘someone’)? Starting the Journey is the obvious place to begin.

Each season includes a small handful of carefully chosen titles — not an overwhelming number of options, but the few we genuinely believe are the best of their kind. We'd rather give you three brilliant books than thirty mediocre ones!

A gentle companion, not a checklist

We hope Seasons of Life feels less like a curriculum and more like a wise friend leaning over your shoulder saying, "Oh, if that's what you're going through, you need this one." Because that's really what good book recommendation has always been about — not just knowing which books exist, but knowing which book meets which person, in which moment.

Wherever you are on your journey today — just setting out, walking steadily, facing a detour you didn't see coming, or looking back with gratitude over decades of faithfulness — we hope there's a book here for you.
