Inspiring Women: Helping your daily walk with God

Anna Hockley

Finding time for God can seem like the most impossible thing when everything and everyone is crying out for your time and attention but it's crucial for building your relationship with your Saviour and creator.

When it comes to daily readings and devotionals, I’ve tried a fair few in my time; through Daily Reading Bibles and notes that can be used alongside the Bible, to online devotionals - modern and classic. In this review I’m looking at CWR’s daily devotional designed for women, Inspiring Women.

Short, and with dates to keep you going through the year, each devotional gives you a Bible reading passage, reflection on the scripture or theme that’s being covered and a prayer to get you started in your prayer life.

What I like about Inspiring Women is its down-to-earth nature. It’s not a heavy, complicated devotional. It’s an easy to read encouraging thought from Christian women seeking to keep other Christian women walking with, and talking to, God. I enjoyed the real-life experiences and the way in which they use them to communicate an understanding of a text and its application to our lives.

One of the refreshing things about Inspiring Women is the wide range of women that contribute. Inevitably, with different writers, you are given different styles and life experiences. The contributors come from different places in life. With such a wide range of contributors, you are presented with a whole host of life experience and spiritual maturity to - whatever age you are. This is something CWR are keen to highlight; that Inspiring Women is not for a set age range. I would recommend that this isn’t really a devotional for teens; but 20+ would probably find this more relevant.

Though the devotionals aren’t overly in deep or complicated, and you may want to use a Daily Reading Bible alongside it, it’s a great spring board for getting into the Bible and having a structured devotional as a start, end or middle to your day. I find it helpful to have a small passage or reflection to meditate on during the rest of the day which is exactly what Inspiring Women is designed to do.

I think this would be a great devotional to use if you are new to faith - or looking for a new, non-threatening way into God’s word, and having a quiet time or whatever you like to call it. Its friendly and conversational tone makes you feel a little like you’re having coffee with a good friend; which for some, is the best place to start.

So if you’re a woman looking for a daily devotion to help you and that relates to you, then why not give Inspiring Women a try. It will only take 5-10 minutes to get through, so you won’t have the excuse that you don’t have the time. And it won’t be hard work; but an encouraging way to fix your mind on what really matters, whatever time of the day that you choose to sit down with God.
