Indescribable: seeing God in his universe

Posted by Les Ellison  ·  Be the first to comment

A unique collaboration in clear words and captivating pictures connecting a pastor/astronomer (Louie Giglio) and a poet/worship-song writer (Matt Redman) – that just about describes the new coffee-table gift book, Indescribable.

The A4 landscape format includes over 200 full colour images from telescopes, space craft and observatories around and way above the planet. Refreshingly, Indescribable is a welcome departure from glossy image with a Bible text slapped across it typical of Christian ‘coffee table’ gift books.

Beautifully photographed images

Indescribable is a fabulously illustrated ‘Well I didn’t know that…’ kind of a book. With som many quotable facts and figures you really can get your head around, it’s a book worth having just to get all that information in one place.

As a tour of the heavens for sofa-based astronauts, Indescribable is readable and highly enjoyable. Facts and figures – like the difference between billions and trillions, all about light years and the sheer vastness of what’s out there, are put into a perspective that doesn’t completely melt the brain.

Packed with scienitific facts and quotes

The text is sparing and complements rather than competes with the photos. Wisdom from poets, thinkers, scientists, philosophers and the Bible make short relevant additions to the well chosen words of Louie Giglio and Matt Redman.

God honouring throughout

Both authors find the glory and majesty of God in the magnificence of the universe – and make that clear with words as beautiful as the photographs of the evidence. But Indescribable is not a creationist picture book nor does it preach any theology to the reader.

Indescribable is a book that speaks with authority. Scientific facts are referenced with same reverence as the Bible quotes. The authors have the confidence in their words and pictures. They respect their reader enough to make revelations and then stand back from making any unnecessary argument.

Intelligently written and thought out

This is an intelligent book for intelligent readers and anyone struck by the majesty of the heavens. It’s the kind of gift Christians can give to even non-Christian friends without embarrassment or apology.

'Indescribable' is what we say about God and the universe because we haven't the words and pictures… now we have.

Over to You

At Eden.co.uk you can find a truly interactive Christian community helping you find all you need to live, learn and grow your faith.

The cover of Louie Giglio and Matt Redman’s Indescribable shows the space shuttle Atlantis approaching the International Space Station against the overwhelming background of the Sun. Copies of Matt’s CDs We Shall Not Be Shaken and How Great is Our God were aboard the shuttle.

  • If you were to spend time on the space station, what CD would you play as you looked back on the Earth or out into space, and why.
