The Ride DVD is an engaging and well made Christmas movie for families, discussion groups and anyone who needs a warm reminder of the true spirit of the grace that came to Earth at Christmas.
It all begins on the last trip of the night for a Chicago taxi driver on his way home for Christmas Eve. He’s not a man that’s thinking deeply about Christmas, goodwill, love and peace or in fact anything very much, when he pulls over for one last pick up at the city’s railway station.
The disheveled pickup gives his destination as Chicago’s Michigan Avenue Bridge, but stifles any discussion as to why he’s going there, alone, and late on Christmas Eve. Normally quick to get a passenger to their destination and then get away, the driver finds himself fascinated by the secretive and agitated stranger in the back of his cab.
It slowly dawns on the tired cabbie that his passenger might be planning a one-way trip to the bridge that could end in a suicide attempt. Prolonging the journey, he tries to prise more information from the intriguing stranger who seems to be approaching edge of despair.
Against his better judgement, the puzzled taxi driver attempts to connect with and help his less than grateful fare. But as the journey around the city stretches into the night, grace breaks through into the hearts of both men - the complacent and the desolate.
This TAFF award winning film is a parable of the Christmas spirit in action and gives a much needed fresh perspective for all ages from 12 upward on what a church can do to live out the grace and forgiveness at the heart of the Christmas message.
