The Compassion Quest
Today's Price £10.24
‘The Compassion Quest’ is a compelling call to transcend our self-centred culture, tune into love’s frequency and follow Christ’s example of humbling himself to humanity.
Author, academic and the Chaplin of Cardiff University, Trystan Owian Hughes, seeks to reconnect readers with the heart of God. With convincing and often humourous references to poetry, literature and film, the author highlights our delicate relational balance between ourselves, God, each other and the world around us. Love connects us all together, and as we grow in spiritual maturity so does our selflessness.
Trystan does a wonderful job of articulating the ‘Compassion Quest’ in a humbling and inspiring manner. Allow him to realign your understanding of the Christian faith as a love-centred adventure.
About the Author
The Revd Dr Trystan Owain Hughes is an Anglican Chaplin at Cardiff University. He is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 2’s ‘Pause for Thought’ and BBC 4’s ‘Prayer of the Day’, and the author of the widely acclaimed ‘Finding Hope and Meaning in Suffering’ (2010).
He lectures in theology at Cardiff University and has spoken at retreat, quiet days and conferences worldwide.
In this follow-up to his much praised Finding Hope and Meaning in Suffering, Trystan Owain Hughes encourages us to develop an approach to life that looks beyond our own concerns.
Using illustrations from poetry, literature and film, and drawing on contemporary scientific thought, the author makes plain that our natural state is an interconnected harmony with God, with each other and with the world around us. Gradually we come to realize that loving others and desiring the best for them is worthwhile, even when there seems to be little in it for us.
Just as Christ chose to humble himself and become 'God with us', so we too will bring light to the lives of those around us by transcending our self-centredness and becoming fully present to those in need. And as we begin to attune ourselves to love's frequency, our inner being will instinctively embrace all creation as sacred and deserving of our care and attention.
