Full Product Description
While investigating a series of baffling fires in San Diego, Special Agent Patrick Bowers is drawn into a deadly web of intrigue where nothing is as it appears to be. With a killer on the loose and one of the world's most deadly devices missing, Bowers is caught in a race against time to stop a criminal mastermind's trap before it closes around the people he loves.
Full of fast-paced action and mind-bending plot twists, The Rook is an adrenaline-laced page-turner that will hold you captive until the very end.
“In his second thriller about FBI criminologist Patrick Bowers, James delivers the caffeinated plot twists and intriguing characterisations that made The Pawn a welcome addition to the suspense genre…It’s a wild ride with a shocking conclusion.” Publishers Weekly (starred review)

The RookSue Allen, via The Good Book Stall
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well-written and well-crafted with a plot that moves with pace thanks to the short chapters and the mix of first and third person narrative. The characters are intimately drawn and I felt empathy and real liking for the hero and his co-workers. The sub-plots of relationships and the histories of the various characters does not detract from the main plot rather it adds depth and colour. I stayed reading until the early hours of the morning in order to finish it! I will certainly be looking for more books by this author.
