Moving Towards EmmausIan Gibson, via The Good Book Stall
The story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus is, to me, one of the most striking moments in the crucifixion and resurrection narrative. After all His teaching whilst on earth, the disciples still did not listen to Him, or take heed of what He had to say. It wasn’t until “their eyes and ears were opened” that they actually realised the truth of what Jesus said and did and the promises that he had made. This wonderful little book brings our thoughts into modern times, full of insights, compassionate and wise, together with moments of honesty and challenges. We in a secular world need to be aware of that wonderful moment of realisation of the disciples, to be aware of the Christian message and mission required of us all in the twenty first century. Discover the unknown Christ, the feeling the disciples must have had when they recognised Christ, the thoughts and anguish of many writers over the centuries when told this story. Of particular note in this book is the chapters “dispatches from Emmaus” wonderfully brief yet succinct, thoughtful insights into our belief.
