Mixed Blessings is one of Barbara Brown Taylor's earliest books which helped to establish her reputation as one of the finest spiritual writers in the English language.

In a series of reflections on scripture, she considers the startling reality of what it means to be the people of God. It is a calling not to be taken lightly as it is likely to disrupt everything we think we know about ourselves and the world. Burning bushes, angelic visitations, voices in the night, blind eyes opened and the dead raised - much as we think we want a direct intervention of God in our lives, the transformation God brings will almost certainly shatter the small, safe worlds we build around ourselves.

Mixed Blessings looks at God's various dealings with people through the Bible and in their stories, Barbara Brown Taylor finds the broader, open spaces of faith and the blessings beyond all imagining to which God invites us.
