Knowing and Growing

Lent is a time for change; a time for cutting back, pruning and growing in strength so that we can live more fruitful lives. Just as with a well-tended garden, we have to work at ourselves to have a full and productive life. This book is for those who want to explore the way to abundant life, for those who seek to know Christ and the power of his resurrection.

In this 8-week course, taking us from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday in a series of one-hour sessions for group study, David Adam shares with us a method of working through Lent which follows the Church's ancient tradition of prayer and reading Scripture called Lectio Divina, or 'Holy Reading'.

Each chapter includes suggested resources, hymns and prayers to help illustrate a theme to be discussed and reflected upon, together with a reading from Scripture of one of the parables in the Gospels, carefully chosen because of the simple pictures they create while also exposing us to deep mysteries and challenges. Every time we extend ourselves to reach beyond the obvious and the immediate, we are reaching towards a higher awareness and potential and the abundant life God wants us to live.
