    Product Description

Stop striving and live freely in God's accepting presence.

Perfectionism is usually a vicious cycle of fastidious habits from which it is hard to escape. Perfectionists assess their self-worth on the basis of their performance – and often do the same to others.

Discover the causes of perfectionism and gain practical pointers to deal with it – in yourself or others. Find out:

    - What perfectionism is and how it develops
    - What physical and emotional responses/symptoms it causes
    - How to find a 'balanced perfectionism'
    - How to 'go on and grow on' into spiritual rest and confidence.

Help yourself or others to live more fully in God's acceptance and grace as a much-loved work in progress.

Foreword written by Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Reading

    Introduction

    1 What is perfectionism?

    2 Living with perfectionism

3 Getting to work on perfectionism

    4 Beyond perfectionism: spirituality

    Afterword

Based on the Waverley Abbey Insight Day on Perfectionism led by Chris Ledger, this book will help both those working with others through issues relating to perfectionism and those who recognise perfectionist tendencies in themselves. Our desire for perfection can dominate our lives, especially when we project it onto other people and demand perfection from them, too. Having a perfectionist in the family might keep our kitchen worktops tidy but long-term it can cause tension, even conflict. But perfectionism is not all bad.

The book helps us find a godly balance and most importantly offers an insight into what God says about striving for perfection, reminding us that we are each a 'work in progress' and should aim for 'His' best, not our own best. Real life illustrations are used, as well as insight and examples from scripture and each chapter ends with a suggested activity, a reflection and a prayer.

Christine Ledger has worked for 16 years as a counsellor, supervisor and trainer in the NHS, and is now in private practice. Christine is a regular presenter on CWR Courses.

Wendy Bray is a freelance writer and journalist with a special interest in family and faith issues. She has written three books, contributed to numerous others and is a regular columnist for a regional evening newspaper.
