Colourful characters, strange stories are all contained in the Old Testament but how do they fit into real history? Here you will discover 450 years of history of the Kings of Israel and Judah; he places each in his own time and place, pointing out in what ways a particular king either feared or did not fear the Lord and what were the consequences. He also involves the contribution of various prophets sent by the Lord to speak to these kings. The final chapter explains how the kingdom of God still functions even although the reign of the kings is over forever.

Never before have I understood so clearly the time line of the kings of Israel and Judah, the stories of whom are set out in the books of Kings, Chronicles and Isaiah in the Old Testament of the Bible. Not that I will remember it all, this is a book to read through, yes, but then to keep by you for reference later. So many names sounding very odd to our ears, the same names appearing as rulers in both territories at the same time; the names of their enemies too, no wonder we are easily confused. Michael Wilcock seeks to explain the hand of God in the various changes, the purpose of attacks from enemies around their borders, the intrigues the various Kings enter into, the way that the people are swayed by their rulers to honour God at one time, to worship Baal and other idols at another: fascinating to read about. In the Days of the Kings is essential reading if you want to have a clearer understanding of this age. Highly recommended.
