“Hi, my name’s Don Jacobson, and I started the ‘God Makes Lemonade’ project because I know from personal experience just how tough life can be. A lot of people are struggling with lost jobs, lost homes, broken relationships, illnesses and fading dreams. They need encouragement; we all do.
“We’ve all heard the expression stuff happens. Here’s what I’ve discovered; along with all the bad stuff, Lemonade happens too. That’s why I’m inviting you to send us your story. Stories where the sour part of life turned out to be surprisingly sweet but not necessarily expected ending.
“God Made Lemonade Stories’ are true stories; stories that bring much needed hope and inspiration. This is not only a chance to receive encouragement but to give it. It might be exactly what you need - Or maybe share the book with a friend who needs encouragement.
“I’ve lived my own lemonade story and telling it has brought encouragement to others. I’d like to invite you to tell your lemonade story and also encourage others. So if you have a story in your life that turned out to have a surprisingly sweet but not necessarily expected ending… remember, lemonade happens.”
“I was moved to tears by some of the stories and laughter by others. What a wonderful book! Reading so many great stories was kind of like taking a mini-vacation. I recommend it to anyone who needs some refreshment.” – Other retailer’s reviewer.
“I like the way they set up the book with short stories! My life is full and I don't have a lot of time, so it's great to be able to pick it up and finish one of the stories in just a few minutes, then get back to my day!” – Other retailer’s reviewer.
“The many short real life stories allow you to take a short reading time, and yet be anxious to come back for more. It's one that can be read, and then reread, and then reread again! A time of crisis will come and remind you of a story that will encourage and lift you up, knowing that others HAVE gone through these valleys, and with God's help, so can YOU!” – Other retailer’s reviewer.
Stories of sweeteness from life's bitter times
Originally self published, God Makes Lemonade is a compilation of true stories which encourage people in sour circumstances that God is at work making lemonade in their lives. That means readers will be able to see divine direction in Lemonade stories. The best stories focus on the compelling and dramatic events that make up the three parts of the lemonade outline — sour circumstance, surprise, and sweet outcome — showing God at work in the process.
Some, but not all, include conversion stories. But all start with an external event such as adopting a child, recovering from an illness, losing a job, etc. These external events are what make every story different and compelling. Stories are true and sent in by ordinary people, though they’re often anonymised or publishedn under another name.
“We all have lemonade stories,” says originator of the concept, Don Jacobson, “so what would happen if we could share them with the people around the world who need them most? That’s the dream of the ‘God Makes Lemonade’ series: to publish true stories to encourage people in sour circumstances that God is at work making lemonade.”
Stories often mirror accounts like that of Tracy Healy. Hers is the beautiful story of a severely abused child who finds the true love of a mother. She told her story as an encouragement to anyone who has been told “never” either about themselves or someone they love.
Doctors originally said that her son would never roll over, sit up, understand anything, etc. By God’s grace and healing, he is doing those things and more.” God is so much bigger than all of the “nevers” in our world,” she says, “and hopefully my son’s journey can be a reminder of that for others during their own hard times.”
