This book provides valuable guidance for churches planning to appoint full-time workers. Biblical principles are clearly spelled out, whilst matters relating to selection and appointment are dealt with in detail. It then moves on to examine the working relationships with other local church leaders, the full-time workers spirituality and the effective use of time. A final chapter introduces the Brethren dimension to those thinking of taking up ministry in churches from that tradition, but who might have had no previous experience of it. Though written primarily for churches with a brethren background, this book contains material, much of it not readily available elsewhere, useful for any church seeking full-time help.
Among the authors of Don't Muzzle the Ox are those who themselves serve full-time and others who function as part-time elders. They include Neil Summerton, author of A Noble Task; Alex McIlhinney, who has worked for the Inland Revenue; Victor Jack, well-known evangelist; and Harold Rowdon, author of The Origins of the Brethren.
