Candles in the Dark is an Advent resource for groups or individuals, drawing inspiration from characters whose faith brought us the Light and the Word, and who prepared the way of the Lord. The CD contains David's spoken words from the book together with gentle music.

Advent comes at the darkest time of the year when the nights are longest. So, it is a time to lighten our hearts, our minds and our days as much as is possible. This is the time of the year we celebrate the coming of Christ the Light of the World. We welcome him into our lives that he may lighten our darkness. This coming is not only on Christmas Day but every moment of our lives. Are we aware that he comes to us, that he is with us and transforms the darkest of our days by his presence?

Advent is a time of expectation and preparation, but more it is a time of affirmation when we rejoice that Christ comes to us, and he comes now. We affirm that Christ seeks entry into our lives and our homes. He wants us to open our hearts and our doors to him. Our Lord is not some past historical figure; he is the Living Lord with whom we have to do. He comes to us that we have light and life in all its fullness.

Will you take time to let him scatter the darkness about you and within you? Learn to acknowledge his coming to you. Rejoice in his presence in your daily life. Be open to the reality that he comes to you. Let him be the light of your life.
