Many people, not just those who are Christians, would say that life is a journey. So, I believe the book title is a good one for potentially drawing people in and wanting to know more about the book’s content. As Christians, or followers of Jesus, we know that the spiritual journey we are on takes us on the narrow path. In her introduction, Carolyn writes: “Does your soul thirst for the Lord? Do you have a deep hunger to know and understand His Word? Sitting at the feet of Jesus is an incredible experience, for He is the greatest teacher you will ever have. Whether you are a new Christian or simply exploring the fundamentals of your faith, let Jesus teach you what it means to be a disciple, and let the truth of His words seep into your soul. If your faith needs a boost, He can fill you with boldness and strength, or if you just feel a bit lost, He can get you back on track.” Having read the book, I would recommend it particularly to those who are young in their faith, or who are open to wanting to know what it means to follow Jesus. However, having said that, as someone who has been a Christian for many years, there are some great insights shared and I learnt things which were new to me. I think the point is to come with an open heart, ready to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you and teach you, because we are all on a life-long journey to becoming more like Jesus. What I particularly like about this book, is that it is grounded in Scripture. It is clear that Carolyn’s writing and insights come out of her own relationship with the Living Lord. She explains who Jesus is (for example, by looking at the seven ‘I Am statements of Jesus), why he came, the choice we have to answer his call to follow him, as well as the cost of it and our commitment to it. She writes a chapter on Jesus’ prayer for us and how we know we do not walk this narrow path on our own. And she spends time looking at how we are to become more like Jesus and what that looks like. At the end of each chapter, Carolyn includes some things which help to solidify what has just been read and there are suggestions of how to make what we have read become a reality in our lives. So, each chapter includes challenging questions, a practical application and a prayer.
