#Worship: Our God

Welcome to another album in this series from Elevation Worship. This album feels a little bit more acoustic than I was expecting for a compilation album. Tracks like Holy is the Lord and God of Wonders are both wonderful songs but may be a bit over done as cover versions, saying that these tracks are solid acoustics versions. The album continues with that style of acoustic music with tracks like Because of The Cross and I Can Only Imagine. I was expecting to say the same about the song Our God, probably the most covered and re-recorded song ever, well maybe apart from Mighty To Save. This version seems less anthemic and more atmospheric, which is a stunning surprise. I love the intro sounds, it feels a bit David Bowie, and the female vocals are also lovely on this track. The album includes a powerful version of The Power Of The Cross which is something else. Wowzer. There is a small dance element to the track This Is Our God. The vocals on Amazing Grace( My Chains Are Gone) are soulful and warm, and I have to admit I wish I could sing like that! In a way it's hard to review a compilation album. For me you have to look at a compilation as 1) the song choices, 2) it's theme, and then 3) the quality of the songs if they are not their original studio recordings. What I gained from this album was that maybe the song choices have been picked a hundred of times before, but the theme of the album 'Our God' means that the picked songs go together nicely, with each song reflecting God and His love perfectly. All the versions of the songs are solid, some I really enjoyed and some I preferred the original. So the brief has been hit and I'm sure when you put this on you will be lost in the wonder of God and that is the main point of the album. 3.5/10
