Just like the adults get a "New Songs" selection, so do the kids, from the same label that puts together the grown-up version. This is a long-running series from Essential Christian and features new tracks that your Sunday School kids may have heard this year at various festivals, particularly Essential Christians own Spring Harvest Easter Festivals. The first song on this collection is actually not the newest track, from 2017 "Coming Alive (Fruit of the Spirit)" was written by Pete James, Harvey Jessop and David Walker from Spring Harvest and has a dance feel to the chorus and poetically teaches the fruit of the Spirit as the things that should be evident in our lives. Sometimes these ideas can be a bit abstract for kids, but this track actually gets this across well in a fun and lively song. The next track is the Hillsong Kids "I Give You My Hallelujah" which is an upbeat worship song, it doesn't actually say very much but it sounds good! There is another track from the Australian megachurch later on the album called "Ask, Seek, Knock" obviously based on Jesus own words. Nick and Becky Drake also bring a couple of their more recent tracks to the album in "Every Step" about God being with us in every step we take in life they also bring their worship song about the kids focus being on Jesus called "Every Eye Is On You". They are also rounding out the album with their song "Oh Wow! (Awesome God)". Again this is focused on lively worship, this time it's based on the wonder of creation reminding us of the greatness of God. Songs for children aren't just worship there is often a lot of imagination and encouragement for some reticent kids to join in and also a very diverse range of what kids at various ages can understand not to mention the styles that they like. Sometimes these kids songs dumb down adult songs, but on this album, they have included Steffany Gretzinger's "Bright Ones" from Jesus Culture and it works really well and I could imagine some of the older kids taking to this song. Other songs like this on this album are the one written specifically for the 2018 Thy Kingdom Come event, so this song is focused on, unsurprisingly, the Lord's Prayer. It's called "Your Kingdom Come" and was written and originally recorded by Pete James although this version is a little livelier than the adult version you can find on YouTube. There are a few songs from the Spring Harvest team, we've already had one on the album and "God Suit On", the title track, is another. This is a fun new look at the whole armour of God and it's a track that I can see really appealing to the younger boys, especially when they can do the countdown of the final chorus. "No Rules, No Limits" is the 2019 kids Spring Harvest theme song and that follows next. With a modern pop-punk vibe this track reminds us that we can speak to God at any time about anything. The Following on from the prayer theme of "Your Kingdom Come" is a brand new song from Trevor Ranger who is a well-known songwriter for children's songs. "Just You and Me" is about coming to Jesus in prayer and in your day to day life as you are because God accepts us. Taking inspiration from the pearl of greatest price is a track from Becky Frith called "Treasure" reminding us that God's love is the greatest gift and this is through the cross. These are the newest kids songs for the year and they sound fairly fresh, especially as I have reviewed this following on from one of the Essential Songs for Kids Collections which definitely had some songs that sound dated. This is a great selection, I think there are good songs here for all ages and I am sure your kids in church will love them. 8.1/10
