A new edition of E. A. Litton's great book has long been overdue. His Introduction to Dogmatic Theology won the admiration of leading scholars upon publication, and has retained that admiration ever since. The book has been completely reset in modern style. The late Dr. Henry Wace of King's College, London (and later Dean of Canterbury) wrote: Litton ""surveys more comprehensively than any English book on the subject the general course of theology in early, mediaeval, and modern times, and illustrates the principles of the various systems whether Catholic of Protestant, which have from time to time prevailed."" Dr. W. H. Griffith Thomas, in his post-humously published Principles of Theology declared that ""for clearness of view, firmness of grasp, balance of statement, and forcefulness of presentation, Litton remains unsurpassed among works on Anglican Dogmatics. ""The book is a comprehensive, balanced, thorough treatment of dogmatic theology from the standpoint of a loyal son of the Church of England. It remains in the front rank of Anglican theology."" Rev. D. B. Knox (Moore Theological College, Sydney) writes: ""As a compendious summary of systematic theology...it is in the front rank. Its republication will be welcomed alike by students, clergy, and thoughtful laymen."" Edward Arthur Litton (1813-1897) was Rector of Naunton, Gloucester. Philip E. Hughes served as Vice Principal of Tyndale Hall, Secretary of the Church Society, and as visiting Professor at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia.
