Today's Air Force chaplain must commit himself/herself to providing mission-oriented spiritual care for the Airmen and their families. Chaplains have a unique and "sacred identity." They must provide the commander with valuable capabilities that help sustain Airmen and enhance the mission. The time has come for the Chaplain Service to embrace the role and mission of the chaplain to provide adaptive, mission-oriented, and needs based ministry that is valued, measured and rewarded by how it enhances the mission. This study examined the strategic guidance and priorities of the Air Force Chaplain Service then, sought to compare the guidance and priorities of the Air Force Chaplain Service to the perspectives of Air Force Field Grade officers.
