Mother Helena presents the life and teaching of St Catherine of Siena as a union of contemplation, courage, and sacrificial love. Writing in the 600th anniversary year of Catherine’s death, she explores the saint’s extraordinary involvement in the crises of the Church and society while showing that all her actions sprang from profound prayer and union with Christ Crucified.
Drawing especially on The Dialogue, the book examines Catherine’s understanding of Divine mercy, self-knowledge, charity, reparation, and the reform of the Church. Catherine emerges not as a remote mystical figure but as a passionate and deeply human woman whose difficult temperament was transformed by grace into an instrument of reconciliation and spiritual renewal. Mother Helena illuminates Catherine’s vision of the Christian life as participation in the redeeming love of Christ through prayer, compassion, and self-offering.
