At its national meeting in November 2000, the Association of Theological Booksellers named Walter Brueggemann's Deep Memory, Exuberant Hope: Contested Truth in a Post-Christian World the Best General Interest Book of the Year. The Theologos Award was presented to the author and to Fortress Press, the publisher, at a dinner held in Brueggemann's honor.
