This work offers a critical philosophical reflection on human dignity and social reintegration in contemporary prison systems, with a focus on the realities in Africa and Mozambique. Faced with prisons marked by colonial legacies, overcrowding, and approaches based purely on punishment or the containment of bodies, the author develops and presents the innovative concept of "productive dignity." By synthesizing the fundamental contributions of the relational philosophy of Ubuntu, Axel Honneth's theory of recognition, and Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy, the book argues that human productivity in incarceration settings transcends the purely labor-related or economic dimension. It must be understood as an ethical and emancipatory capacity to restore self-esteem, critical consciousness, autonomy, and bonds of community belonging. Work and education emerge as central pillars ensuring that individuals deprived of their liberty are not reduced to the crime they committed, but rather recognized in their humanity and in their right to become human again.
