This study is divided into four parts:

1. an outline of the social, political, economic and educational context;
2. a presentation and discussion of theoretical views of education within the context of labour markets;
3. a description of the background and present situation of industrial workers in south Egypt; and
4. a multivariate analysis of various influences on the job levels, earnings, vocational aspirations and job satisfaction of industrial workers in south Egypt.
