The joy of success is cut short for true crime writer Vern Bridge when he hears word of a murderous, fire breeding cult who sees all fire that is caused by the sun as a living thing--a living thing that they must baptize. But these are not your traditional baptisms of prayers and holy water. These baptisms, invented by their leader Backstep, are bizarre and eerie.

A bizarre eeriness that pushes Vern over the edge, causing him to risk it all to take down Backstep and his followers.

But Vern later finds out that Backstep will be even more impossible to take down after his death, and anyone who has a run-in with him will never look at the daylight the same way ever again.
