Michelle Halprin restarted her life in 2014 when she left her marriage of nearly 24 years and returned to San Diego, the city where she lived during her college years. One year later, she met Barbara Smith, an instructor teaching a guided autobiography (GAB) class at a private adult school. Looking back, she sees that this meeting sparked her memoir writing efforts. A great deal of personal internal work and participation in several different writing groups with members who also studied with Barbara helped divulge deeply held beliefs and painful learning experiences. In her 70's, she developed the courage to share some of these memories with a wider audience. She wrote more than 30 autobiographical vignettes, and selected sixteen to share in this book. In the pages of Becoming My Best Self - Memories & Reflections, she sends her stories out to the universe.
Michelle Halprin started writing poetry and keeping journals as a young teenager as a way to express overwhelming feelings and find hope during some of the most turbulent years of her life. She continued to keep journals throughout her adult life and discovered that writing helped clarify her thoughts. Her yearnings to understand the purpose of this life and her aspirations for spiritual growth have now been woven into her memoir writing.
Michelle earned a BA and MA in Asian Studies and a second MA in Educational Technology. She launched her own consulting business in the mid-1990s. She has a keen interest in comparative religions, particularly focused on Asian scriptures. She is now retired and focuses her creative energy on designing fused glass objects. She enjoys traveling and has plans for more adventures, particularly in Asia.
