This book introduces Catholic theology by locating its form and content in the crucible of the early Church's reception of the Good News. In the patristic period, one finds the conjunction of liturgical experience (broadly understood), scriptural exegesis, metaphysical reflection, and doctrinal/creedal formulation that characterizes Catholic theology throughout its history.
With this framework in view, the major purpose of the book is to introduce readers to the tenets of Catholic faith, and the book also should acquaint readers with the central doctrinal debates of the Catholic tradition. Using the Apostles' Creed as a structure for the book, I will draw upon the thought of a wide array of theologians (patristic, medieval, and modern), as well as biblical exegetes and philosophers, in order to introduce theology in the Catholic tradition.
