Catholic political movements have been recognized by many as as important element in 20th-century European conservatism. This text explores an aspect of the history of Catholic political movements - their significance during the interwar years in Europe. Martin Conway discusses the flourishing of Catholic political parties in the modern world from France to Lithuania to Ireland and argues that these movements were dominated by hostility to social and political structures in the modern world.
