    Family Money Matters

How a Christian manages his finances is an important issue. Today, when it is so easy to borrow and spend money, Christians need to rediscover a Biblical framework. John Temple has written a helpful book on this subject.
The author emphasises the vital principles that our expenditure is modest and less that our income. He challenges us to give away as much as possible to the Lord’s work and charity.
The book abounds with sound financial advice and practical tips on a variety of subjects including how to clear debts, buy a car, and invest in a pension plus what pocket money to give to children. Throughout the book the author quotes scriptures to identify Biblical principles.
There is also an interesting chapter on the world’s view of money. This has comments on the current financial crisis and the massive debts of most Western governments. Those wanting to develop a Christian perspective on this issue will find it thought provoking.
Some of the chapters go into financial matters in more detail than I think is strictly necessary. The reader who falls asleep at the mention of ‘pension’ or ‘mortgage’ may find some parts hard going. My wife gave up in the middle of chapter 1! However do not let this put you off. I would recommend it especially to Christians just starting work and those who are struggling under a mountain of debt.
