Dr. Thomas uncovers revival narratives, testimonies of pastors and laity, reports of healing, and efforts of racial reconciliation, allowing him to develop a case study of the various "outpourings of the Holy Spirit" at St. Giles Presbyterian Church (1937-2025), through evangelical revival (volume 1), charismatic renewal (volume 2), and third wave revival (volume 3). This work also includes the historical context, significant American revival leaders, the spirituality of its pastors, and the renewal organizations that inspired the Richmond, Virginia parish.

Volume 1 describes the history of evangelical revival and social reform led by Blanton Belk as he challenged St. Giles to apply Oxford Group teachings to racial justice, prison reform, and war and peace, by seeking daily guidance from God and engaging in evangelism as modeled by Billy Graham. The volume concludes with accounts of revivals during the pastorate of Earl Morey through the inspiration of Neo-Orthodoxy, Neo-Evangelicalism, Koinonia prayer groups, Share the Faith, and the Order of St. Luke the Physician healing ministry, as taught by Alfred Price and Rufus Womble.
