This book consists of papers that were presented at or inspired by the Society for Pentecostal Studies' Annual Meeting which convened 13-15 March 2025 at Northwest University, Kirkland, Washington. Pentecostals believe that 'true worship' is an acknowledgement, response, and submission to the Divine who is graciously revealed in Jesus through the Spirit (Jn 4.23).
Worshipers seek to align their actions with God's will. Yet, at its core, worship isn't confined to religious ceremonies but is woven into the fabric of our existence. However traditionally the idea that worship only takes place in a building has been perpetuated and as such almost everything else is not classified as 'true worship'. However, Scripture admonishes that everything that is done should be done thankfully, having God's glory as the focus (Col. 3.17; 1 Cor. 10.31). In other words, everything we do, from the mundane to the extraordinary, expresses what we hold most valuable.
This project suggests that Pentecostal worship should not focus on being merely personal encounter. While it may begin as such, it can lead to action which includes engagement with socio-political and economic issues.
Marcia Clarke (PhD, University of Birmingham, UK) serves as the Pastor for Spiritual Formation and Discipleship at New Beginnings Church in Simi Valley, California, and as adjunct faculty at Vanguard University.
