It is the final years of the first century AD and word has reached Rome that the Church in Corinth is in crisis! Because of jealousy and envy, certain young men have sought to expel some of the established bishops who had served the church honorably and blamelessly. This move has thrown the church into confusion and threatened to tear it apart. The condition in Corinth had become desperate. To quote one observer, "Your division hath perverted many; it hath brought many to despair, many to doubting, and all of us to sorrow." In response, Clement of Rome takes up his pen and drafts a letter calling the Corinthian believers back to the peace and harmony they once enjoyed. In this book, we will seek to hear Clement's letter in its original context and learn how we might apply its counsel, though nearly two thousand years old, to our present lives.
