THIS DELIGHTFUL BOOK tells the fascinating and inspiring story of the establishment and growth of the Methodist Church in Africa. The story begins when the first Methodist settlers (with African roots) arrived in today's Liberia in January of 1820. They landed on Providence Island near today's Monrovia. From that beginning, the book provides an historical study of the Methodist Movement in Africa, as an encouragement for people to study its important history. It identifies many lay people, pastors, and bishops who spread the Methodist movement in Africa. It also portrays Methodism in Africa as contributing to holistic liberation - that is, economic, political, and spiritual liberation, for all people. And it emphasizes how warmly Methodism is held within the hearts of the many indigenous Africans who follow this powerful form of Christianity. The book is graced by a Forward from David W. Greaves, Resident Bishop of the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. PIANAPUE KEPT EARLY is an Elder in Full Connection in the Alabama - West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. He is Pastor of Theodore First United Methodist Church in Theodore, Alabama. Originally from Liberia, he holds a Ph.D. in Practical Theology, plus several other graduate degrees. Pianapue enjoys going in mission trips and playing football (soccer) during his spare time. He is married to Dr. Claudette L. Williams.
