It’s well-known that starting up a new church is much easier than reviving an old one. Although nondenominational churches are growing, denominational churches are not. Paul Nixon states that most analyses of the problem miss the actual point. Churches decline for a number of reasons, but principally it’s because they have forgotten who they are. They have forgotten their mission to reach out to those who do not know God in Christ. They have forgotten that we worship to come into the presence of a God who leads us out into the world.

Paul Nixon calls this failure of memory "spiritual amnesia." His latest release Healing Spiritual Amnesia encourages churches to break out from their comfort zones, and to embrace the church's great challenge in making the gospel available in new and compelling ways to those who need to hear it the most.
