A Key was first written for those who misunderstood the Society of Friends as it began. Its clarity provides a message for modern Friends, reminding all of what we properly are and what we are not.

In a period of complex and rapid change, new patterns of religious thought, expression, and practice appear. The present-day emphasis on the practicalities of putting historic principles into action may eclipse deeper inward and contemplative understanding of Christian belief.
