Wrestling Prayer
Is this the most inspiring or the most irritating of books? This reader came close to throwing it across the room, which doubtless says more about my level of Spirituality than the Ludys’! Much space is taken up with how reading this will change you if you let it, and rhapsodising about the power and grandeur of Wrestling Prayer, but the book offers little indication of what this is, or how it differs from customary prayer, which is written off as “Spiritual-sounding chitter-chatter”. It describes in detail the flesh-denying lifestyle of absolute Spiritual purity that Jesus demands – the Ludy’s live a caffeine-free, rest-free, self-free life and expect the same from anyone aspiring to be a Mighty Person of God – but of the actual wrestling prayer there is frustratingly little. Is it longer? Louder? More passionate? The nearest they come to explaining is to recommend three other books on prayer by other authors. Prayer, they say, is always answered – but only if you have 100% faith. Even Jesus only asked for a mustard seed’s worth and did not reject a plea of, “Help my unbelief”! Perhaps I am just not ready for this book and other, more advanced Christians will find it a revelation and a Godsend. Uncompromising and not for the faint-hearted.
