I've found myself in seasons where I was so focused on my own pain that I spent more time talking to God about my needs than the needs of others. There is nothing wrong with praying for ourselves and those we care about. The Bible tells us to bring everything to God in prayer, yet it is so easy to develop a habit of prayer tunnel vision. Can you relate?

Intercessory prayer is the act of going before God on behalf of others. It is an act of love. It is also one of the ways that I live life encouraged. Focusing on the needs of others helps me maintain perspective on my own struggles. When I feel myself turning inward and spiraling into negative thoughts, I stop and pray for others who might be in a similar situation.

In my journey to joy, I've found that praying for others increases my empathy and ability to be compassionate. Praying for others reminds me that I'm not alone. Praying for others makes me more grateful. Praying for others is a way for me to acknowledge God's power and see Him at work in the lives of others, even when I struggle to see Him at work in mine.
