Praying Our Lives

This is the last book by Sister Eleanor Bernstein who died recently. She was at one time Professor of Liturgical Theology at Notre Dame University and has written extensively on prayer, meditation and holy women. This book is a treasury of prayer primarily for women to help them understand more fully their Catholic faith and to enter more deeply into an intimate relationship with God. The prayers, both ancient and modern, traditional and contemporary, are drawn from the Scriptures, both from the Book of Psalms and from the writings of mystics, men and women. They are inspired by the great feasts and seasons of the Church, Advent, Lent, Christmas and Easter, and also to the times of the day, morning, midday, evening and night. There are prayers for peace in the home and for the wider human family. Many relate to the changing social status of women and to women’s experiences as wives, mothers and daughters. All these prayers are catholic in the true sense of the word.
