      Product Description

In this series of fascinating and profound conversations, clinical psychologist Robert J. Faas and author Arthur Versluis discuss how to deepen your spiritual life in the midst of challenging and even apocalyptic times. In this remarkable book, they discuss the hidden inner riches of mystical Christianity and disclose for the first time in accessible, clear language the secret alchemical path of transmutation embedded in the Grail cycle and in the mysteries of the Western tradition. This book is meant for the spiritual seeker who knows there must be more to life than what we are usually told. In an age of distraction and confusion, what is our path forward to a more meaningful and fulfilled life? To that question this book provides answers.

Robert J. Faas is a clinical psychologist with many years of practice and experience in the Christian alchemical path made available in the works of Jacob B hme, John Pordage, and Friedrich Schelling.

Arthur Versluis is author of numerous books on spirituality, sacred landscape, and the intersection of religion and literature. He is the founding director of Hieros Institute, a nonprofit devoted to deepening our understanding of the sacred in modern life, found at www.hieros.world.

      A gem of a book!

This little gem of a book is everything I’ve been waiting for, having been on the spiritual path for over forty years. I’m delighted to see many of the big questions I have often wrestled with are discussed here in a way that I would never have had the freedom to explore within my home tradition (evangelical church). Not only does it prompt me to gaze out on the entire philosophical and mystical vista - as far east as west - it affirms that my personal quest and journey into the underworld (psyche’s shadow) is indeed a necessary component of soul growth. I wouldn’t say it’s for a complete newbie - you would need to be familiar with some of the terminology; transcendence, manifestation, themes relating to alchemy and transmutation (links are made to Jung’s ‘individuation’ for example) so it’s definitely more useful for someone who is drawn to a deepening, and has already been researching this to some extent: ‘the seeker’ in other words, as referenced in the subtitle. Considering the depth and magnitude of the subject matter, it is refreshingly accessible and by no means a challenging or dry academic read. I especially enjoyed the conversational format: a dialogue between a psychiatrist and professor of western esotericism which brings theory and practise together for it is clear that both men have considerable personal experience as well as professional knowledge: the passion, conviction and scope of vision that sparks between these two minds is palpable and dynamic. It’s like listening in to an intriguing conversation at another table in a coffeehouse, only you don’t have to miss a word. I would strongly recommend this book for someone who has dismissed Christianity as being irrelevant, not relatable or inadequate as a solution to the challenges of modern life. It will make you think again. It’s also the perfect read for someone who’s been damaged by or feels abandoned by the Church and may want to distance themselves from institutional Christianity, yet doesn’t want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. It presents a viable alternative - a homecoming for the ‘lost’ soul. Speaking of which, I think fundamentalists should read it too. And atheists. Everyone in fact. Buy it - now!
