When I grow close to God

And give Him glory and laud,

I begin to feel insignificant,

And I realize I’m not innocent.

I see my wicked heart, saturated in sin,

And turn my face, ashamed, from Him.

I find myself to be a worthless bug

And don’t know why with God I am smug.

I fall to my knees, trembling with fear,

For I believe the wrath of God is very near.

I plead for his mercy, I beg for his grace,

I ask that He, on me, shine His face.

He smiles at me,

And points, so I can see,

A cross, now stripped bare,

Where Jesus took my sins and cares …
