From Alaska to Zimbabwe, rural Indiana to the jungles of Bolivia, missionaries, pastors, church mission leaders, and organizations were all blind-sided by COVID-19. Through interviews with more than 100 people who are active in community and global missions, seven strategies emerged that can be used to guide churches and mission leaders through similar crises when going, sending, welcoming or supporting have been interrupted or broken down.
At a time when the world was locked down, masked and quarantined, we have had to re-evaluate how we do missions. Answers included virtual technology, live-stream worship and digital evangelism. This book examines how we adapted and related, created and connected. But questions remain: in a post-pandemic world, how will we move forward with mission partnerships; what will sending and going look like if international borders do not re-open; and, what is the role of Short-Term Mission teams?
Joyce Good Henderson has been active in local, national and global missions for almost four decades. She has led nineteen teams to Ecuador in the past eighteen years, including one in 2020 before the pandemic. In addition to her work in Ecuador, she has led many teams on local and national mission projects and heads up the Global Impact Ministry of her church. She is an instructor for the Perspectives course and a mentor with Mission-Minded Women. This is her second book on missions.
