This is a book for every Christian whose desire is to be close to Jesus, every Christian who wants to understand why Christ seems to be silent in their life.
Have you ever felt abandoned by God? Have you ever felt God had abandoned you to suffer alone? Have you ever cried to God without receiving any answer? Do you feel that Christ is ignoring your prayers and your problems? This work has given an extensive explanation on the silence of Christ. The disciples asked Jesus, "Lord, do you not care?" Mark 4:38. This book is giving hope for every Christian especially when we feel abandoned by Christ. In this book, I have pointed out that the silence of Christ in your problems, is not the absence of Christ in your life. Hence, faith is what attracts the attention of Jesus in your life.
The book has three Chapters. In Chapter one, I have discussed the meaning and the origin of suffering. In this chapter I have identified three types of human suffering, namely; merited suffering, unmerited suffering and suffering caused by natural disasters. I have also discussed in detail the value of suffering. I have shown that the suffering of Christ teaches us that love can arise from evil. The value of suffering reminds us that it is neither necessary nor desirable to eliminate human suffering to pursue a flourishing life. We should aim to show that the proper responses to human suffering are actually the best pathway to a flourishing human life. Learning and growing from difficulties is a vital pathway to a flourishing human life. Furthermore, as I was reflecting on the value of suffering, I have realized that the value of suffering is that it builds in us a sense of shared humanity by joining with other suffering people. All the suffering you have gone through as an individual, should help you to help other people going through the same problems.
In Chapter two, I have extensively discussed the silence of Christ in peoples problems. I have given examples on how people feel Christ has abandoned them and is ignoring their prayers. Often when youre praying about something, instead of receiving the answer right away, your prayers are met with silence. God seem not to be answering your prayers. In Chapter three, I have shown that the silence of Jesus in your problems, is not the absence of Jesus in your life. I have used Mark 4:35-41 as the main reference because it gives us deep insights into the meaning of the silence of Christ and the role of our faith in inviting Jesus into our lives. I have pointed out that Jesus always comes to us in the storms of life, "when you pass through the waters, I will be with you," Isaiah 43:2. The purpose of the storm was to help the disciples grow in faith. He`s equally with you in your boat and storms of life. Just invite him like the disciples.
