The Best Seat in the House

It's really more like playing musical chairs; as soon as the music stops, someone is going to left without a seat, and usually it's a little guy like me. That is what happens when even a dinner party becomes a competition.

Take the wedding banquet that is described in the gospel of Matthew. It would have been the event of the year for any small village, and everyone would have been there. And, of course, Jesus was there, standing off to the side, taking it all in.

Jesus watched all the invited guests scrambling to get the very best seat in the house, and after a while he announced that they had it all wrong. Instead of the best seats, we should be seeking the worst seats.
