Pastoral or therapeutic care involves the functionality of an ordained pastor or lay person on one hand and a social or clinical psychologist on the other hand to accomplish either permanent results by divine intervention or temporal results through human therapy. Thus, pastoral care that is motivated by the Spirit of God is faith based and relies on the power of prayer, whereas therapeutic care depends on human theory motivated by man.

This book serves as a guide for helpers—who must look beyond the scope of human therapy to enforce permanent changes in their clients. It takes the handiwork of God to determine psychological or behavioural changes in people, not the power of the human person.

William I. Imona-Russel, A.Th., B.Th., M.R.E., D.R.E. (Honourary) is a graduate of Queen's College Faculty of Theology in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, where he obtained his associate in theology. He is a graduate of Thorneloe University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, where he obtained his bachelor of theology degree. He is an honour graduate of the master and doctorate degree in religious education from Grace Pacific University in Torrance, California, and combines his knowledge of theology with the knowledge of psychology and social work from Stratford in Quebec, Canada, where he received honours.

He enjoys the Word of God and enjoys the service of Him who created us in His image and likeness—God. He is an avid tennis player and family oriented.
