Meg Bryson isn't exactly proud of how she's spent the last year and a half. This coupled with the two-inch scar across her chin has her avoiding a trip to her sister's new home.

When Meg is commissioned to paint a mural for a retirement facility in her home town of Asheboro, North Carolina, the reunion with her sister and brother-in-law goes much differently than she ever expected. Before long, she's surrounded by plenty of new friends and an exceptionally skittish stray dog. Surprisingly, the little dog chooses her as his new owner, and she is forced to deal with an arrogant, unfriendly veterinarian. But could she be mistaken about Dr. Heath Campbell?
