What if leading well begins with receiving rather than doing?

In Rooted in Rest, Kurtley Knight guides pastors and ministry leaders through five postures that move them from self-reliance to spiritual rest, showing how abiding in Jesus is the true source of sustainable ministry.

Knight identifies the specific ways pastors respond to ministry pressure and charts a path forward through five posture shifts paired with a spiritual practice designed to move leaders from doing for God to being with God:

• From speaking to listening, through solitude
• From leading to following, through the examen
• From helping to withdrawing, through retreat
• From solving to wondering, through spiritual direction
• From giving to receiving, through the Eucharist

In Rooted in Rest, you'll find:

• Specific applications for pastors and ministry leaders dealing with burnout, anxiety, or ministry pressures
• Spiritual practices as pathways into abiding, not performance, mere self-care, or productivity tools
• Scriptural grounding that takes seriously Jesus' invitation to find rest in him

Rather than urging you to simply do more, Knight shows you how rest precedes ministry action. This vision is not one of retreat from the work God has given but of abiding in Jesus in the midst of that work, leaning into the rest that only he can give. If you have found true rest elusive, this book offers a reorientation. Rest is not a discipline to master or a reward to earn; it is a gift to receive.
