Bad luck or divine intervention?

During his recovery from surgery, Christopher Baldwin, living in Los Angeles, reluctantly stays in Chicago with his estranged family-the one he thought he had escaped altogether after his divorce. He now must deal with complicated relationships concerning his children, ex-wife, and girlfriend. He is also concerned about a pending promotion while away from work.

And why are his children so angry? What can he do about it during a few weeks at home? What will happen with his job back in Los Angeles? Chris finds himself in a quandary about his life choices, relationship with his family, and his relationship with his girlfriend who makes him feel young and free.
