With a stubborn stutter, Betsy finds it easier to write than speak, so she gets names from the USO and writes to lonely WWII soldiers overseas. One of her correspondents is killed in action and his sergeant brings her a bundle of letters the young man had never sent. The sergeant recognizes Betsy's beauty in her shy personality.
